We have everything you could need to make your camping trip truly luxurious, including hot tubs, spa treatments, hammocks, and high speed Wi-Fi! Please keep reading to discover our top picks for fun family experiences during your stay at Swallowfields.

1) Campfire Nights

Our gorgeous safari lodges boast private gardens with a fire pit that doubles as a BBQ, perfect for gathering your family around as the sun starts to set. It’s a great reason to let the little ones stay up late as they sit around the campfire cooking s’mores, watching the twinkling stars in the sky and telling stories and jokes for all to enjoy.

2) Summer Delights

One of our favourite summer activities here in the Malvern Hills is a visit to Clive’s Fruit Farm. Just a 10-minute drive away from Swallowfields, you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries, and cherries – yum!

There’s also a great play area for the little ones to burn off some steam, a cosy café for a refreshing drink, and a lovely farm shop so you can stock up on some delicious local produce.

If you want something creative to do with your fruit after you’ve finished picking it, you could make all kinds of wonderful drinks or desserts, such as a Strawberry Cooler!

3) Picnic on the Malvern Hills

When the days are sunny and warm, who doesn’t love to go for a picnic? Venturing into the great outdoors with a picnic hamper is one of the great joys of summer. So, pack your favourite food, drinks, and a blanket or two, and head to the majestic Malvern Hills to find a gorgeous spot in the stunning English countryside to enjoy a good old picnic.

If you don’t fancy making a picnic, Sally’s Place is at the foot of the British Camp, an iron age hill fort. There are convenient parking facilities here, and you can pick up some scrummy food and take it with you.

If you’d prefer a hearty walker’s lunch, the Malvern Hills Hotel is directly opposite Sally’s Place, where you can stop for a spot of lunch after a tiring walk, and its dog friendly too.

4) Rollin’ on the River

Enjoy an unforgettable day exploring the River Severn with family boat hire from Severn Expeditions. Choose from guided trips and self-driven boats, moor up in Tewkesbury, wander around the medieval market town, stop for yummy fish and chips, then enjoy a leisurely trip back to Upton-upon-Severn. Here you’ll find beautiful scenery and wildlife which can only be spotted via boat – it’s a truly fun family day out.

5) Malvern Spa Town

Nestled at the foot of the Malvern Hills, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is the Victorian spa town of Malvern. It’s an enchanting area to take a leisurely stroll, browse the independent shops, and visit the Malvern Museum of Local History and Great Malvern Priory.

Take refreshing sips of the famous Malvern spring water on Belle Vue Terrace, enjoy a tasty lunch in the family-owned Faun Café, and visit the awe-inspiring Priory Park Gardens, where little ones can run around in the brand new children’s play area and feed the ducks in the pond!

6) Unique Local Events

Experience what the Malvern Hills has to offer by taking part in local events happening around the region.

One of our top recommendations is the Welland Steam and Country Rally, which takes place from Friday 28th – Sunday 30th July 2023, and features a rally of 90 working steam engines, nostalgic fairground rides, vintage and classic motor cars, motorcycles and tractors, plus much more!

We also recommend the Tewkesbury Medieval Festival (Friday 8th – Saturday 9th July 2023), the Sunshine Music Festival (Thursday 24th – Sunday 27th August), and the GT Bicycles Malverns Classic Mountainbike Festival (Thursday 24th – Sunday 27th August).

7) Severn Valley Railway

All aboard the Severn Valley Railway! Join generations of passengers who have enjoyed steam train journeys through the beautiful English countryside, experiencing hundreds of years of history, right under their feet.

There’s something for the whole family to enjoy – spend a full day exploring 16 miles of railway with carefully restored stations and beautiful surrounding towns, or just ride the rails and discover local history as you go!

Kidderminster and Bewdley stations are equidistant from Swallowfields, at just under an hour’s drive away.

8) Croome

For a gorgeous day out in Worcestershire, visit the breathtaking Croome, a beautifully maintained National Trust estate which dates back to the mid-18th Century. At the heart of the estate lies Croome Court, which was once a secret wartime airbase. Previously home to the Earls of Coventry, the grand building has four floors to explore and features artists and craftspeople telling the stories of its eclectic past in inventive ways.

Outside, the grand English landscapes were designed by Capability Brown as his first commission, boasting commanding views over the Malverns. The parkland was once nearly lost, but thankfully it still stands and is ideal for walks and outdoor adventures, with surprises around every corner!

9) Alpaca Meadows

Ever dreamed of walking a fluffy alpaca? Alpaca Meadows and Café lies just a 10-minute drive away from Swallowfields, and it makes the perfect place to take the whole family for a unique day out. Embark on a guided tour around their gorgeous green meadows with an alpaca walking by your side (on a lead, of course!) and ask any burning questions you might have about these adorable, fascinating creatures.

10) Eastnor Castle

A truly magical adventure for the whole family is a day at Eastnor Castle, a magnificent Georgian castle surrounded by a deer park, lake, and arboretum. The castle is home to the Hervey-Bathurst family, and its interior boasts medieval armour, fine art, and an incredible Gothic Drawing Room.

There is plenty to do for all ages across the grounds, including an adventure playground, junior obstacle course, knight’s maze, treetop walkway, woodland play area, lakeside, and woodland walks. The arboretum contains the finest collection of cedars in Britain and has tree trails and rope swings. There’s even a café serving light lunches, a lovely picnic area, and it’s dog-friendly!

Eastnor Castle has all sorts of fabulous family-friendly events happening throughout the year, including Teddy Bear’s Picnic and Storytelling, and up-close Animal Encounters. Details of their full programme of events can be found on their website.
